I'm not associated with fdev in the slightest, so I could be entirely wrong and they likely have a different approach to their ship designing and testing. Though, as cool as I think the model is, it's honestly a shame we had to learn about its' existence through a hacker. Unleash a new age of technology with an arsenal of cutting-edge innovations that will keep you ahead of the game. If the "Mamba Lite" really is an in-development ship and not an experimental placeholder that wasn't intended to be used, I must logically conclude that it is not even close to the finished product/design. It's a bit tricky, but this corner-cutting can be hidden with a well-made bump map and texture. Polygons are a very finnicky thing, and often times many game engines are incapable of supporting higher poly-counts on their models without taking a heavy performance hit. I'm a student Game Artist, so honestly this is just speculation on my part Often times in most games I've personally worked on (student projects- im not a pro by any means yet), we create ultra-low-poly versions of models we're still working on/polishing the designs of, and this low-poly "unpolished" model is used as a placeholder for the finished product while we test it's variables in-game.
